Rey Gonzalez opens 2010 in AAA.

Gonzalez was born in Cuba then moved to Florida. The Colorado Rockies took him in the 38th round of the 2004 amateur draft out of high school but he opted for college. The Toronto Blue Jays chose him in the 19th round of the 2005 amateur draft and he signed.

Gonzalez was 2-0 with a 1.63 ERA for the 2005 Pulaski Blue Jays in his pro debut. In '06, the right-hander had a 3-5, 4.26 record for Pulaski, but allowed a .301 average. Reidier was 9-7 with a 3.53 ERA for the 2007 Lansing Lugnuts. He placed 10th in the Midwest League in ERA.

In 2008, the 22-year-old improved to 12-4, 3.14 for the Dunedin Blue Jays and saved one game. He tied Dylan Owen and Jonah Nickerson for the Florida State League lead in victories. He was 4th in ERA among hurlers with 115+ innings, trailing Rick Porcello, Marco Carrillo and Cole Devries. Using the more standard cutoff of one inning per team game played, he led the FSL in ERA. He joined Owen, Porcello and Graham Taylor as the FSL All-Star starters, though Owen won Pitcher of the Year honors.

Gonzalez had an even better ERA in 2009 with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats with a 4-6, 2.90 record before a groin injury sidelined him for the last month-plus. He would have ranked second in the Eastern League in ERA had he qualified. The Cuban native began 2010 with the AAA Las Vegas 51s but was awful (2-8, 8.35, 111 H in 69 IP) after his first 13 outings.
