Red Causey pitched 131 games in the big leagues in a five-season career between 1918 and 1922. His rookie season, with the New York Giants, may have been his finest. In 29 games (18 starts), Red tossed 10 complete games with 2 shutouts in 158 1/3 innings, going 11-6 with a 2.79 ERA. He recorded 2 saves that year, coming in his first two big league appearances: April 26th against the Brooklyn Robins and April 30th against the Philadelphia Phillies. He would only toss one more shutout, in his final full season with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1920, and finished his career back in Gotham with 24 games in 1922.

Red began his professional career in 1914 with the Savannah Colts. In 32 games, he went 18-11. The following season, 1915, he went 16-20 for the Portsmouth Truckers (9-6) and Savannah Colts (7-14). In 1916, Causey went 19-10 in 38 games with the Waco Navigators, and in 1917, he went 17-13 with a 2.40 ERA in 39 games for the Rochester Red Wings. On August 1, 1919, he was traded with Johnny Jones, Mickey O'Neil, Joe Oeschger and $55,000 from the New York Giants to the Boston Braves for Art Nehf. On July 10, 1921 he was traded from the Phillies to the Giants for John Monroe and Jesse Winters. He spent 11 games with the Indianapolis Indians in 1922, going 3-7 with a 4.27 ERA with them. Causey died in 1960 and was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lake Placid, FL.
