Biographical Information

Jesse Winters played five seasons in the majors. He began his professional career with the Kansas City Blues in 1918, going 3-2 with a 2.42 ERA in 13 games with them. He spent 21 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1921, going 11-8 with a 2.91 ERA. On July 10, 1921, he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies for John Monroe.

Though his major league career was over by 1923, his professional career was not. He played for the Portland Beavers in 1924, going 16-20 with a 4.11 ERA in 42 games. In 1925, he played for the Wichita Falls Spudders (eight games) and Portland Beavers (22 games), going a combined 6-6 with a 4.41 ERA in 30 games.

Overall, Winters went 36-36 with a 3.70 ERA in his four-year minor league career.

He was Mayor of Abilene, TX in the 1950's according to his obituary in the 6-23-1986, The Sporting News.

Following his death, he was interred at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene, Texas.

He was the first major leaguer named Winters. Later players with that name include Clarence Winters and Matt Winters.
