Biographical Information[edit]

Randy Phillips pitched in the minor leagues and the Taiwan Major League. His twin brother Ronnie Phillips also played pro ball.

Phillips was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 24th round of the 1992 Amateur Draft, and he went 2-4 with a 3.36 ERA for the Medicine Hat Blue Jays in his first season. He was 7-6 with a 3.83 ERA for the Dunedin Blue Jays in 1993, and he also pitched 5 games with a 6.12 ERA for the Knoxville Smokies. Phillips then went 3-2 with a 2.44 ERA in Knoxville in 1994, but he struggled with AAA Syracuse Chiefs as he went 6-9 with a 6.05 ERA. His 112 K tied Aaron Jersild and José Silva for 6th in the Jays chain. He went to the San Francisco Giants after the '94 season, but he struggled at AAA class again as his ERA was 5.11 with a 4-13 record for the Phoenix Firebirds. He led Giants farmhands in losses and tied Marc Barcelo for the most in the 1995 PCL.

Moving to the bullpen, the Arizona native was 1-4 with four saves and a 3.23 ERA for the Shreveport Captains in 1996, and he recorded a 2.66 ERA in 11 games there in 1997 (2-0, Sv). He also pitched 21 games for the Firebirds, and he was 5-4 with a 3.04 ERA. Phillips then had a 6-4 record with a 3.97 ERA for the1998 Captains, and his ERA rose to 5.32 in 9 games for the AAA Fresno Grizzlies. He went to the Reno Blackjacks in 1999, and he went 8-3 with a 4.56 ERA there. He was 7th in ERA in the high-offense Western Baseball League, between Jeff Sobkoviak and Andrew Frierson. Phillips was named an All-Star pitcher in the, along with Tom Bergan, Ryan Bowen, Kurt Takahashi and Chris White. The Kaoping Fala signed him in the middle of the 1999 season, and he went 3-1 with a 2.66 ERA in Taiwan. Phillips was 7-3 with a 3.75 ERA for the Chico Heat in 2000, then he announced his retirement.
