First baseman Ramon Castillo played his fourth minor league season in 2010.
Castillo signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks in April 2007; the scout was Junior Noboa. Ramon hit .253/.367/.380 in his pro debut with the 2007 DSL Diamondbacks. He came to the USA in 2008 with the Yakima Bears but struggled at .222/.267/.320. Dropped down to the Missoula Osprey in 2009, he batted .278/.355/.444. With Paul Goldschmidt at first, Castillo was used primarily at DH. He was plunked 13 times, leading the Appalachian League.
Ramon hit .311/.377/.498 with 24 doubles in 65 games for the 2010 South Bend Silver Hawks, the 10th-best average of any Midwest League player with 200+ at-bats though he did not qualify for the batting title. He was with the Panamanian national team for the 2010 Pan American Games Qualifying Tournament.
