Biographical Information[edit]

Rafael Gonzalez pitched in the Cincinnati Reds system from 2004 to 2009. He was taken by the club in the 4th round of the 2004 amateur draft, one pick ahead of pitcher Brad Bergesen and a couple picks ahead of catcher Chris Iannetta. He was signed by scout Jason Baker.

He never pitched above High A, and his breakout campaign was his third-to-last. With the Dayton Dragons in 2007, Gonzalez went 13-5 with a 3.53 ERA in 25 starts, allowing 131 hits and 56 walks in 135 innings. He tied David Herndon and Duane Below for the Midwest League lead in victories. He was a Mid-Season All-Star that season.

Overall, Gonzalez went 31-39 with a 4.95 ERA in 109 games (91 starts) over six seasons. In 467 innings, he allowed 483 hits and 229 walks, while striking out 317 batters.
