Biographical Information[edit]

Rafael Galbizo pitched in Cuba's junior program in Havana before defecting to the United States in October 2004 with Yunel Escobar, Yamel Guevara, Johan Limonta, Jose Cordero, and Joel Perez. Galbizo was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 20th round of the 2005 Amateur Draft (one selection before fellow right-hander Vance Worley) and pitched three years in their farm system, failing to break out of A ball.

Galbizo split 2005 between the GCL Marlins (3-0, 3 Sv, 2.45), Jamestown Jammers (1-0, 2.77, 18 K in 13 IP) and Jupiter Hammerheads (2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 6 K in 4 IP). He spent all of 2006 with Greensboro, going 4-7 with a 5.22 ERA in 41 games. He was sent down to the Jammers in 2007 and was somewhat better (2-1, 4.13). Overall, his minor league record was 10-8, 4.25 with 3 saves in 75 games (8 starts). He walked 72 in 154 2/3 IP.
