Biographical Information[edit]
Ping-Nan Chen played for four seasons in the CPBL. His son Po-Yu Chen turned pro in 2020. [1]
He was on the Taiwanese team that won Silver in the 1990 World Junior Championship. [2] He won Bronze with them in the 1993 Asian Championship and played in the 1993 Universiade. [3] Turning pro, he hit .190/.227/.273 as a backup outfielder for the Wei Chuan Dragons (71 G, 129 PA) in 1997; he stole 10 bases in 14 tries. He went deep off Omar Bencomo Sr. for his lone home run of the year, winning Game MVP that day. [4] He hit .193/.240/.228 in similar playing time in 1998. He was involved in the first CPBL double play to involve two outfielders. [5] In 63 plate appearances in 1999, he improved to .328/.371/.414 and stole 7 bases in 7 attempts. Moving to the Sinon Bulls for 2000, he again hit well (.333/.368/.417) in limited time (38 PA, 33 G). He finished his career at .231/.272/.298 with 32 swipes in 41 tries.
He later coached youth baseball. [6]
