Biographical Information[edit]

Phil Rossi has been a minor league player (two years) and a scout (over 30 years). His twin brother Bob Rossi has also scouted.

The Chicago Cubs took Rossi in the 36th round of the 1977 amateur draft. The infielder split the summer between the GCL Cubs (12 for 29, 3B, 3 BB) and Geneva Cubs (.274/.346/.333 in 43 G). He stole 10 bases in 11 tries for the summer and only struck out in 7 of 164 AB. In 1978, he was a utility man for the Pompano Beach Cubs, backing up Dan Rohn at 2B and also seeing action at SS, 3B, C and OF. He hit .246/.308/.254 with only four strikeouts in 122 AB, but also only one extra-base hit (a double). In 156 minor league games, he had batted .276/.342/.315 with just 11 strikeouts in 286 at-bats. He fielded .945 in 34 games at SS, .932 in 34 in the OF, .974 in 18 at 2B, .917 in 5 at 3B and had one putout and no errors at catcher.

Rossi scouted for the Boston Red Sox (1981-1997), New York Yankees (1997-2000), Cleveland Indians (2000-2005) and Florida Marlins (2006- ). He signed John Marzano and Frank Herrmann.
