Biographical Information

Corner infielder Petr Goleš has played in the Extraliga in four different decades and has been on the Czech national team.

He was on the Technika Brno teams that won Extraliga titles in 1993 and 1994; stats are limited for those seasons but he totaled 10 homers. He would spend his entire career with Technika Brno (as of 2020). In '95, he hit .387/.489/.760 with 8 homers in 75 at-bats. He was among the league leaders in home runs (8, 4th between Marek Rejman, Pavel Budský and Aleš Navrátil), RBI (23, 5th), extra-base hits (12, tied for 5th), runs (32, tied Jiří Víšek, trailing Budský), hits (29, 6th), slugging (7th), OPS (8th), total bases (57, tied for 5th with Tomáš Svoboda), times plunked (5, tied for 5th) and offensive Wins Above Replacement (1.4, 4th, between Navrátil and Ivo Kučera).

He fell to .311/.361/.444 in 1996 and scored 29 runs, 8th in the league. He was on the Czech squad in the 1996 B-Level European Championship; they qualified for a spot in the 1997 European Championship. He rebounded to .395/.475/.605 in '97 and his four triples tied for the league lead. He was on the Czech team for the 1997 Euros, the first European Championship appearance by an entry from that country.

After not playing in the 1998 Extralige, the big infielder hit .260/.360/.299 in 1999 but stole 19 bases in 19 tries. He led the league in swipes, by four. He was then 3 for 4 with a double, steal, two runs and a RBI in the playoffs. In 2000, he batted .420/.495/.693 with 16 steals without being caught. He was second in swipes, two behind Kučera. He then hit .533/.600/.733 with 12 RBI in 8 postseason contests.

Technika Brno won the 2001 CEB Cup, the first Czech team to win a European event. He hit .355/.423/.710 in that season's Extraliga. In the postseason, he hit .440/.650/.800 with 12 runs and 9 RBI in 9 games. He was named best hitter in the 2002 European Cupwinners Cup. In the '02 Extraliga, he was at .330/.398/.489 with 28 runs in 25 games. He tied Jiří Víšek and Miroslav Víšek for 5th in dingers (4), was 9th in runs and 3rd with 14 stolen bases (again not being caught). He hit .367/.441/.467 in the playoffs. He was 2 for 12 with a RBI in the 2002 World University Championship, backing up David Winkler at 3B, Michal Kočí at 1B and Jan Chuboda at 2B.

He did not play in 2003 and struggled in 2004 (2 for 23, 3B, 2 BB, SB, 2 CS). He returned 14 years later to go 2 for 13 with a double and a walk as a player-coach at age 42. In 2020, with foreign import players mostly unavailable due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he found himself on the field in his 4th different decade.

Off the field, he has been an architect.
