Biographical Information[edit]

Tomáš Svoboda has been a long-time infielder in the Czech Extraliga.

Svoboda was on the Czech team in the 1996 European Championship B Pool to help them qualify for their first European Championship, the 1997 European Championship. He was 11 for 40 with two doubles and five walks for Technika Brno in 1999 (the first season for which Czech stats are available online as of 2012). In 2000, he was 12 for 36 with 4 doubles, a triple, walk and 10 RBI in 10 games. He did not play in the Extraliga in 2001. In 2002, he hit a meek .211/.313/.273 with 24 runs in 31 games while fielding .950. He improved to .273/.348/.354 with 16 runs and 16 RBI in 21 games in 2003, while fielding .934. In a bit role, he batted .390/.457/.463 with 9 runs in 11 contests.

Svoboda hit .279/.372/.356 with 27 RBI in 33 games for Technika Brno in 2005 while fielding .925. He had hit .295/.368/.382 with 190 runs in 817 at-bats in the 1995-2005 span, while fielding .920. In 2007, he had his best year, at .453/.500/.594 with 15 runs in 15 games. He led the league in average (.032 ahead of runner-up Jakub Malik, was second to Malik in slugging, was second in OPS (34 points behind Malik) and ranked third in OBP behind Jan Jablonka and Martin Veselý.

In 2008, he fell big-time, going 16 for 71 with 2 doubles and 5 walks between Technika Brno and Draci Brno. He hit .349/.404/.390 with 30 runs in 40 games and fielded .945 back with Technika Brno in '09. In 2010, he hit .255/.344/.270 with 21 runs in 37 games and fielded .937. During 2011, he batted .271/.386/.313 with 34 runs in 41 games and fielded .960. He tied for 7th in the Extraliga with 25 walks and just missed the top 10 in runs. He was 4 for 10 with 3 walks in the 2012 European Cup.
