Biographical Information[edit]

Peter Bonilla has pitched in the minors and for the Spanish national team.

Bonilla was 1-0 with a 3.71 ERA for Spain in the 2021 U18 European Championship, beating Austria's Lukas Inmann. [1] He was 1-0 with a save and a 4.38 ERA for CB Barcelona that summer, also hitting .438/.550/.625 in limited action. He struck out 48 but walked 35 in 37 IP. He was 9th in the Spanish Baseball League in ERA despite being only 16 years old. [2]

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed him in January 2022. [3] He was excellent in his first pro summer, going 6-0 with a 1.95 ERA for the DSL Dodgers Bautista with 37 K in 32 1/3 IP; his control was much better as he walked 11. He tied for 8th in the Dominican Summer League in wins. He returned to the same team in 2023 and was again very good (6-1, 1.41 in 19 G; 38 K in 32 IP).

He made his debut for Spain's senior national team in the 2023 European Championship. He made only one appearance, closing out Jorge Balboa's win over Austria. He took over with a 13-1 lead. After walking Tobias Werner, he struck out Andreas Lastinger. Philipp Eckel singled to put men on the corners but he recovered to get Richard Alzinger looking and Felix Zimmerle on a fly. Spain won Gold, their first European Championship title in 68 years. Bonilla was one of three native-born Spaniards on a ringer-laden team, joining Balboa and Eric Paez. He was also their youngest player, a year younger than Carlos Colmenarez. [4]
