Biographical Information[edit]

Andreas Lastinger has played in Germany, Belgium and Austria and for the Austrian national team.

He debuted with the Mainz Athletics in 2009, going 4-for-21 with a walk as a third-string backstop. [1] At age 18, he split catching with Kevin Kotowski and batted .180/.297/.213. He tied for 6th in the Bundesliga-1 South with six times hit-by-pitch. [2] During 2011, he improved to .262/.429/.381, still splitting time with Kotowski. [3]

Lastinger took over the starting spot in '12 when Kotowski moved to the outfield. He hit .267/.362/.333, was second to Michael Stephan in putouts and was third in runners thrown out. [4] He also spent part of the year with the Namur Angels in Belgium, going 6-for-16 with 3 walks, two doubles and a run. [5]

In 2013, he produced at a .276/.393/.378 clip, fielding .985 for Mainz, but only throwing out 9.3%. He led the league in putouts and HBP (11). [6] Moving to the Austrian Baseball League, he batted .360/.478/.613 with 13 doubles and 21 runs in 19 games for the 2014 Vienna Wanderers. He was 9th in average, 6th in OBP, 5th in slugging and OPS, tied Ferdinand Obed for 8th in hits (27), led in doubles (by 3), tied for 7th in homers (2) and tied Peter Ferak and Adrián Quirantes for 6th in RBI (18). With the '15 Wanderers, he fell to .281/.443/.368. He was 10th in OBP and tied Hiroyuki Sakanashi for 7th in steals (10). [8] The next year, he was at .242/.419/.273 in reduced action. [9] In the 2016 CEB Cup, he was 4 for 11 with 3 walks, a triple, run and a RBI. He was 9th in slugging (between Joshua Crouse and Dario Colović). He also pitched one game, but allowed 10 runs in 3 innings to lose to Antonio Horvatić and Karlovac. [10]

Switching clubs again, he moved to the Stockerau Cubs and hit .410/.515/.551 in 2017. He was 7th in average, 6th in OBP, 10th in slugging and 9th in OPS. [11] In 2018, his batting line read .307/.398/.507. [12] Becoming player-coach of the Attnang Athletics in 2019, he was 3rd in average, OBP and slugging, led in OPS (44 ahead of runner-up Miguelangel Bastidas) and tied for 7th with four homers. At season's end, he became player-manager. [13]

Andreas scored 25 runs in 16 games his first year as player-manager, hitting .415/.535/.774 with 16 RBI. He made the leaderboards in average (3rd), OBP (3rd, behind Obed and Sakanashi), slugging (2nd), OPS (2nd) and dingers (tied Philipp Brenner for 6th). [14] In '21, he was at .315/.483/.494 and he tied for 7th with 11 steals. [15] He followed with a .346/.414/.500 campaign. [16]

Returning to the Wanderers in 2023, he batted .308/.471/.538 with six runs in four games in the 2023 Confederation Cup. He tied for third in runs (behind Benjamin Goffaux and Edison Valerio) and tied Lucas Rizzi for the most times plunked (3). [17] In the ABL season, he hit .273/.442/.576 with five homers and 21 RBI in 17 contests. He was 8th in slugging, 10th in OPS, tied Chris Squires for fifth in home runs and tied Obed for 7th in RBI. [18] He then played for Austria in the 2023 European Championship, starting in left field for them. His first at-bat, he struck out against Tomáš Ondra of Czechia. His first hit was a single off Jorge Balboa of champion Spain. He was only 2-for-21 with 3 runs for the event, with 2 HBP and one walk. He fielded .889. He tied for 5th in the Euros in times hit-by-pitch. [19]

Through 2023, he was 9th in ABL history in OBP (.470) for players with 3+ seasons in non-aluminum-bat play. His 78 HBP were second, 13 behind Benni Salzmann. [20]
