Biographical Information[edit]
Carlos Colmenarez has played in the minors and for the Spanish national team.
He was signed by Tampa Bay Rays scout Daniel Santana in January 2021. [1] He hit .247/.319/.289 for the DSL Rays 1 that summer, fielding .936 at short. In 2022, he moved up to the FCL Rays and produced at a .254/.379/.381 clip, with 13 steals in 15 tries. He improved his fielding at short to .963.
In 2023, he was with the FCL Rays (.333/.417/.429 in 5 G) and Charleston RiverDogs (.201/.344/.304, .897 FLD& at SS in 83 G). He had 33 steals in 43 tries for the year. He joined many of his fellow Venezuelans on the Spanish team for the 2023 European Championship. He debuted in their opening rout of Greece, pinch-hitting for tourney MVP Wander Encarnación. He struck out against Dimitri Lettas. Backing up at second and short, he finished the event 1-for-6 with a walk and three runs, handling six chances without a miscue. His lone hit was off Sweden's Dean Olsson. [2]
