Biographical Information[edit]
Pete Cassidy played two seasons in the major leagues. In 1896, he hit .212 in 49 games for the Louisville Colonels. In 1899, he split the season between Brooklyn and Washington. He hit fairly well, batting .298 and hitting 14 doubles in 52 games.
Cassidy was born, and died, in Wilmington, DE. He was the tenth Delaware-born player to come to the major leagues. Pete had a long minor league career, spanning 1894-1909. Among other teams, he played five years for Providence and four years for Jersey City. The 1903 Jersey City Skeeters were one of the great minor league teams, going 92-33 and featuring, in addition to Cassidy, Mickey Doolan and Moose McCormick. In later years, he played a couple seasons for his hometown team, the Wilmington Peaches. The book Baseball in Baltimore has a photo of the 1908 Baltimore team, champions of the Eastern League, including Cassidy; a teammate there was Wilbert Robinson.
