Biographical Information

Osvaldo Berríos has pitched in the minors and for the Puerto Rican national team.

Berríos was the Oakland A's' 20th-round pick of the 2017 amateur draft; the scout was Hector Stewart. He was 2-3 with a 8.00 ERA for the AZL Athletics in a rough pro debut, then improved to 3-4 with a 3.71 ERA in a return engagement there in 2018. In 2019, he pitched for the AZL Athletics Gold (2-1, Sv, 3.60 in 4 G) and Vermont Lake Monsters (0-4, 5.79 in 11 G). The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 season.

In 2021, he was with the Stockton Ports (3-6, 5.97 in 16 G) and Lansing Lugnuts (2-1, 5.86 in 6 G). In his debut in his native Puerto Rican League, he had a 5.87 ERA in six games for the Santurce Crabbers. Spending all of 2022 with Lansing, he was 5-8 with 3 saves and a 6.17 ERA. He was part of a combined no-hitter against the South Bend Cubs, completing the final two innings of a 2-1 gem, following Jorge Juan, Jack Owen and Shohei Tomioka.

After not playing in 2023, he began 2024 with the independent Gateway Grizzlies and was superb (1-0, Sv, 3 H, 2 BB, 1 UER, 14 K in 9 1/3 IP, .100 opponent average). The St. Louis Cardinals signed him and he split the rest of the summer between the Peoria Chiefs (2-3, 8 Sv, 2.34 in 24 G, 44 K in 34 2/3 IP) and the Springfield Cardinals (5 R in 1 IP). He tied for 7th in the Midwest League in saves and tied for 4th in the Cards chain. He then joined Puerto Rico for the 2024 Premier 12. In his debut against Team USA (shortly after a US comedian called Puerto Rico garbage in a political rally), he helped his island to a 1-0 upset win. He relieved Raymond Burgos with one on and one out in the 6th and the 1-0 lead in place. He hit Matt Shaw; a double steal put the potential go-ahead run in scoring position. He recovered to retire Luke Ritter on a liner then gave way to Jorge Benítez.
