Biographical Information[edit]

Oscar Abreu pitched in the minors leagues and the CPBL.

Abreu began his professional career with the Oakland Athletics, going 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA and over a walk an inning for the 1994 DSL Athletics. Coming to the US, he was 1-2 with a 7.96 ERA for the AZL Athletics in 1995; both of his first two seasons, he walked over a batter per inning. He struggled again in 1996 as he went 5-3 with a 6.48 ERA (showing improved control and tying for 5th in the Arizona League in wins), then he had a 8.31 ERA in 20 games for the Southern Oregon Timberjacks in 1997. Abreu also pitched 5 games for the Visalia Oaks, but he allowed 23 runs in 11 2/3 innings. He recorded a 7.78 ERA in 34 games for the Modesto A's in 1998, then the Athletics released him. The Brother Elephants of Taiwan then signed him, and Abreu went 0-1 with a 4.96 ERA in 1999.
