Biographical Information[edit]

Orlando León has played for the Ecuadorian national team.

He debuted in the 2022 South American Championship, starting at second base to form a double play combo with Johan Leon. He grounded out against Peru's Jorge Sivirichi his first at-bat then doubled his next. In the 4th, he moved to the mound, relieving Kevin Solorzano with a 2-2 tie, two on and none out. He began by striking out Susumu Yoza and José Salas but Jorge Pastor hit into a error and Juan Casas singled in a run, another runner being thrown out at home. Orlando allowed only one hit in the last three innings, fanning five and walking none, to get the win over Jonathan Farías. In the 3rd/4th place game, he relieved Solorzano with two outs, a 3-0 deficit and two on then retired Giancarlo Kanashiro to escape the jam. He allowed only two unearned runs in the next five to again beat Peru. He hit .250/.250/.333 with two RBI in five games, fielding .929 and posting a 2-0, 0.00 record with 13 K in 9 1/3 IP. He tied tourney MVP Marcelo Arai for the most wins, tied former minor leaguer Casas for the most Ks and was second to Arai (also 0.00, in 10 2/3 IP) in ERA as Ecuador's ace (Damián Villanueva was next on the team at 2.10). He was second to Arai in innings. [1]
