Biographical Information[edit]
Olen Parker played in the minors then became a college coach.
He was a 23rd-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1986 amateur draft, one pick before Jamie McAndrew and two ahead of Rick Wilkins. He split the summer between the Bend Phillies (.261/.327/.283 in 14 G) and Utica Blue Sox (.250/.327/.341 in 20 G), fielding .925 at second base between the two stops. Moving up to the Clearwater Phillies in '87, he batted .270/.340/.287 and fielded .961 as their most-used second sacker.
Parker returned to Grambling for his degree then was assistant coach at Louisiana Tech, Dallas College-Mountain View and Baton Rouge Community College as well as serving as an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves. He was hired as the first varsity baseball coach for Southern University at New Orleans, starting in 2024.
