Biographical Information[edit]

Nobuhiro Takagi pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.

Takagi was selected by the Yakult Swallows, Seibu Lions and Hiroshima Carp in the third round of the 1981 NPB draft, and the Carp won the lottery for his rights. Takagi had a 4.74 ERA as a reliever in his rookie year, but he only pitched 3 games with the big club in 1983. He entered the rotation in 1984, and he was 2-4 with a 4.58 ERA. Takagi was then selected into the 1985 NPB All-Star Game, and he pitched 1/3 of a shutout inning for the Central League in both Game 1 and 3. He ended up 9-6 with a 3.90 ERA in 1985; he gained all his 9 wins before the All-Star break. Takagi suffered from a left shoulder injury, so he only pitched 10 games combined in the next four seasons. He came back in 1990, and he had a 3-3 record with a 2.67 ERA in 26 appearances. The Carp then traded him to the Seibu Lions for Ikuo Takayama. However, Takagi injured his left shoulder again, and he announced his retirement after the 1993 season. He was the pitching coach for the Chunichi Dragons from 2009 to 2011.

Overall, Takagi was 16-18 with a 3.85 ERA, struck out 221 and pitched 327 1/3 innings in 7 years in NPB.
