Biographical Information[edit]

Nick Valenza has pitched in the minors and for the Puerto Rican national team.

The Seattle Mariners took him in the 18th round of the 2011 amateur draft; the signing scouts were Chris Pelekoudas and Rob Shabansky. [1] He was 0-2 with a 7.90 ERA for the AZL Mariners that summer, walking 28 and throwing 9 wild pitches in 27 1/3 IP. He cut his walks in half in 2012 with the Pulaski Mariners though he still uncorked ten wild pitches in 25 1/3 innings. His ERA improved to 5.68. He tied for 6th in the Appalachian League in wild pitches.

In '13, he was 3-1 with four saves and a 6.52 ERA for the Everett AquaSox. He split 2014 between the Clinton Lumber Kings (0-2, Sv, 2.75 in 14 G) and High Desert Mavericks (0-1, 4.85 in 8 G) before a left calf injury cut his season short. [2] The next year, he was with Clinton (0-1, 1.88 in 8 G) and the Bakersfield Blaze (2-3, 2 Sv, 5.77 in 28 G).

He was presumably of Puerto Rican descent as he pitched for Puerto Rico in the 2015 Premier 12. He made three appearances, giving up five hits and two runs in 1 1/3 IP. He did not have the team's highest ERA as Gabriel Hernández and Fernando González were higher. [3] He was 1-0 for the independent Evansville Otters, giving up 7 hits and 8 runs in 3 2/3 IP to end his career. He had gone 5-10 with a 5.49 ERA in his minor league career.
