Nhauro Mpanguri
Nhauro Mpanguri was the ace of the Zimbabwean national team in the 1999 All Africa Games. He relieved Freedom Moyo in the opener against eventual Silver Medalist Nigeria with a 9-6 lead in the bottom of the 6th. He allowed 7 hits and 6 runs (3 earned) while fanning five in three innings as Nigeria rallied for a 12-11 win, handing Mpanguri the loss. He then started against Lesotho and got Zimbabwe's firs win, going four innings with three hits, eight walks, five strikeouts and three unearned runs. Mudiwa Gamanya relieved him with a 23-3 lead and closed out the 31-5 romp. In his third outing, he started against Uganda and threw three innings, allowing three hits, one walk, two strikeouts and one run; Morgan Mpofu replaced him with a 25-1 lead and Zimbabwe won by a 30-1 score. Mpanguri thus finished the event with a 3.60 ERA in three games (two starts), going 2-1 with 12 strikeouts, 13 hits and 9 walks. The rest of the Zimbabwean start was 0-2 with a 20.14 ERA. He led the team in pitching appearances, starts and strikeouts (double Ozias Moyo). He also played one game at first base, going 0 for 2. He tied Nigeria's Emmanuel Motoni and Lesotho's Justice Tsuniyane for the tourney lead in wins. He helped Nigeria win the Bronze Medal.
