National Post
The National Post is a daily English-language newspaper based in Toronto, ON but which is directed at a national Canadian audience (somewhat like USA Today in the U.S.)
It was founded in 1998 by the notorious Conrad Black, and at first was largely derided for putting ideology ahead of news coverage, as it wanted to counter what it saw as the centrist or leftist bias of papers like the Globe and Mail and Toronto Star. It has since gained greater respectability by toning down its political leanings over the years. However, it has had to cut back on its national ambitions, given the state of the newspaper industry generally, and now largely focusses its distribution on Canada's four largest provinces - Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta.
Sports coverage was always secondary to political coverage at the newspaper, but it did have on staff one highly-respected baseball writer in John Lott, who wrote for the National Post from 2000 to 2016, when he left to join The Athletic.
