Biographical Information[edit]
John Lott is a Canadian baseball writer who won the Jack Graney Award from the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2021.
Growing up near Gettysburg, PA, he realized quickly that he would not make it in baseball as a player and turned to writing instead. He was the editor of high school paper, then moved to Ontario after graduating from college, working for the Newmarket Era as a general reporter. From 1975 to 1980 he worked for the Aurora Banner, another small-town Ontario paper. In 1980, he began teaching journalism at Centennial College in Toronto, ON, while also starting a baseball website that tracked prospects in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. This eventually led to his being hired in 2000 by the National Post as a free-lance baseball writer. In 2004, he retired from teaching to write full-time. All in all, he would be the main baseball writer for the National Post for 16 years. In 2016, he moved to The Athletic, until his retirement in October of 2020.
In 2013, he co-wrote a book on the Blue Jays with Shi Davidi, Great Expectations: The Lost Toronto Blue Jays Season.
