Globe and Mail
The Globe and Mail is a Canadian newspaper published out of Toronto, ON but which is printed in six different cities. It is the most widely read newspaper in Canada with a readership of over 2 million. It likes to call itself "Canada's national newspaper" and is often considered the Canadian equivalent of the New York Times because of its serious and in-depth coverage of domestic and international politics, and its influential cultural section. It was founded in 1844 as The Globe by George Brown, who would later become one of the fathers of Canadian Confederation. It merged in 1936 with The Mail and Empire, itself the result of an earlier merger, to acquire its current name.
Among writers who have worked for the paper are Jeff Blair, Larry Downes and Larry Millson, longtime beat writer for the Toronto Blue Jays.
