Biographical Information[edit]
Larry Millson has been a long-time beat writer covering the Toronto Blue Jays for the Globe and Mail.
He grew up a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the International League, selling programs at their ballpark, and also playing baseball with a young John Hiller. His first newspaper job came with the Hamilton Spectator in 1964. He also worked for the St. Catharines Standard, the Toronto Star, and Toronto Telegram before joining the Globe and Mail in 1971. He worked for the paper's sports section, covering thoroughbred racing and the Olympics, among other topics, before being assigned as the Blue Jays' beat writer in 1980. He became read across the country as the team became very good over the next few years. In 1987, he published his first book, Ballpark Figures: The Blue Jays and the Business of Baseball, which examined the team's standing as a business venture. He left the Globe in 2009, but continued writing for mlb.com and covering baseball as a freelance reporter after that.
In 2016, he was honored with the Jack Graney Award by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
