Toronto Metropolitan University
(Redirected from Ryerson University)
Toronto Metropolitan University is located in Toronto, ON. It formally became a university in 1993; it was previously known as Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, or RPI for short, and later as Ryerson University until 2022. Toronto Metropolitan University introduced baseball in 2013.
In 2021, its board of governors decided to rename the university to severe its link with Egerton Ryerson, known as the architect of Canada's infamous residential school system for First Nations children. The university was founded in 1948, half a century after Ryerson's death, so there was no particular reason to retain the controversial name. The new name was announced in April of 2022.
