Biographical Information

Nathan Adcock made his minor league debut in 2006 and his major league debut in 2011 after being selected in the 2010 Rule V draft.

Adcock went 12-2 with 140 strikeouts as a high school senior. He was picked by the Seattle Mariners in the fifth round of the 2006 amateur draft after being scouted by Brian Williams. He was 0-2 with a 3.31 ERA that year for the AZL Mariners. In 2007, Adcock was 2-8 with a 3.70 ERA for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and 1-3 with a 8.84 ERA for the High Desert Mavericks. He came close to the Midwest League's top 10 in ERA but was backed by the worst club in the league (by record). In 2008, Nathan was 2-5 with a 3.72 ERA for Wisconsin, fanning 82 in 77 1/3 innings. He missed the last couple months of the year due to a right elbow strain. Baseball America rated him having the best curveball of a Seattle farmhand. Adcock began 2009 with the High Desert Mavericks; in an extreme hitters' park, he was 5-7 with a 5.29 ERA after 19 games.

Adcock was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates with Jeff Clement, Aaron Pribanic, Ronny Cedeno and Brett Lorin for Ian Snell and Jack Wilson. Following the 2010 season, he was selected in the 2010 Rule V Draft by the Kansas City Royals. He made the team's Opening Day roster and made his major league debut in the team's first game on March 31, 2011, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, pitching a scoreless 8th inning in relief of Luke Hochevar and Aaron Crow, who was also making his major league debut. He went 1-1 with a 4.62 ERA in 24 appearances as a rookie, including 3 starts. In 2012, he was 8-6 behind a 5.53 ERA as a starter with the AAA Omaha Storm Chasers and 0-3 with a solid 2.34 ERA in 12 games for the Royals. He was back in AAA at the start of 2013, but his ERA shot up to 7.09 with Omaha, along with a 3-4 record. He was placed on waivers in mid-June and picked up by the Arizona Diamondbacks. They assigned him to the Reno Aces, but he continued to be hit hard, to the tune of a 6.38 ERA. In spite of a winning record (8-6) in the Pacific Coast League that season, his ERA was a fat 6.67.

Adcock signed as a free agent with the Texas Rangers before the 2014 season. In spring training he was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome, a condition that compresses nerves, arteries and veins on his right side. He underwent surgery before heading to the minor leagues again that season. He saw his last big league action with the Cincinnati Reds in 2015, undergoing Tommy John surgery in August.

In 2018, he became an area scout for the Miami Marlins.

Nathan (from Kentucky) is apparently not related to Joe Adcock (from Louisiana). Joe played for the Cincinnati Reds in the early 1950s and Nathan played for them over 60 years later in 2015.
