Biographical Information[edit]

Nalor Gniatou was the first batter in the history of the Laotian national team.

When Laos made their debut in the 2018 Asian Games, Gnatiou led off and played short in the opener against Thailand. He struck out against Siraphop Nadee then lined out in the 3rd; in the 6th, he fanned versus Phanuwat Sukmuang. He had one putout, two assists and an error as Laos lost in a 15-0, 6-inning mercy rule loss in which they got just one hit. [1] The next day, against Sri Lanka, he fared much better. He singled off Chamika Yasas to open the game then scored on a triple by Phithak Hopkhop for Laos's first run ever. He singled in Bee Sengsoulin in the 2nd, stole third and scored on a wild pitch. In the 5th, he singled off Kankani Gamaralalage Chirath Karunarathne and scored again. In the 6th, he hit a three-run inside-the-park home run for the first homer in Laotian team annals (their only one through Sept. 2021). He finally singled off Tharidu Madumal in the 8th for a 5-for-5 day with 4 runs and 4 RBI in a 15-10 slugfest loss; he again made one error, this time in seven chances. [2] For the initial round of the Games, he was 4th in average (behind Jack Daru, Chayaphat Suanthong and Alexander Clark), tied for 2nd in runs (one shy of Amila Pushpa Kumara), tied for 1st in hits (with Pushpa Kumara, Daru and Suanthong), tied Naruephol Muangkasem for 1st in homers, tied for 3rd in RBI (with Sameera Rathnayake and Suanthong), tied Joe Daru for 5th in slugging, tied Hena Kanakanamge Kasthuri Akala Ranasinghe for 6th in OBP, 2nd in total bases (2 behind Joe Daru) and tied Hopkhop for the most errors.
