Biographical Information[edit]

OF-1B Nai-Wen Cheng played in the Chinese Professional Baseball League for 7 years.

Cheng was drafted by the Uni-President Lions in the fourth round of the 2004 CPBL Draft, and he spent his first three seasons in the CPBL minor league. He debuted in 2007, going 8 for 57 with a double and three walks. He was 6 for 28 with 2 walks and 3 doubles in 2008. In 64 games in 2009, Cheng hit .284/.338/.433. He had several key pinch-hits in the 2009 Taiwan Series as his team took the title. Cheng was 2-for-3 with a pinch-hit, game-tying 2-run homer off Ryan Cullen in Game 3. He slumped to .154/.220/.209 in 2010, and he was demoted in the middle of the season. He mainly stayed there in the next two seasons, and he only played 14 games combined with the big club. The Lions then traded him to the Brother Elephants for Chin-Mu Lee in the middle of the 2012 season. Cheng hit .260/.309/.300 for the Elephants in 2013, but he only recorded a .188/.289/.281 batting line in 2014. He then announced his retirement after spending his 2015 season in the minors. He then coached Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology from 2018 to 2023. He became a coach for the TSG Hawks in 2024.

Overall, Cheng hit .230/.285/.327 with 111 hits in 7 seasons in the CPBL.
