Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Mo Bruce played in the New York Mets system from 1996 to 2000 and the Montreal Expos and Pittsburgh Pirates systems in 2001. He was taken by the Mets as the first pick of the 54th round of the 1996 amateur draft, ahead of future major leaguer Chris Woodward.

After posting an anemic .261/.280/.348 slash line with no home runs, 13 RBI and 8 stolen bases in 42 games between two clubs his first season, he became a force the next two campaigns. Between two clubs in 1997, he hit .358/.428/.556 with 7 home runs, 35 RBI and 26 steals in 63 games, and in 1998, he hit .341/.390/.490 with 15 home runs, 74 RBI and 45 stolen base in 126 games for the Capital City Bombers. He was named the Player of the Year in that year's Maryland Fall League season, hitting .307 with a .500 slugging percentage there. He fell to .270/.351/.390 with 33 steals in his first year at Double A, 1999, and further to .260/.318/.348 with 29 steals in 2000. That year included his first stay at Triple A, where he hit .232/.288/.318 in 43 games for the Norfolk Tides. That spelled the end of his time in the Mets system. The then-26-year-old went to the Expos and Pirates system in 2001 to wrap up his career, hitting .200/.259/.286 with 14 stolen bases in 61 games between three clubs.

Overall, Bruce hit .289/.349/.413 with 38 home runs, 248 RBI and 155 stolen bases in 549 games over 6 seasons. He slashed .223/.283/.301 in 166 Triple A at-bats.
