Biographical Information[edit]

Mineo Fukuhara played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Fukuhara was signed by the Hankyu Braves in 1981, and he went 4-for-12 in 1982 and 6-for-19 in 1983. He secured the starting second baseman spot in 1984, and he played 120 games with a .268/.339/.382 batting line and 6 homers. He crushed a game-winning grand slam against Kazuhisa Kawaguchi in 1984 Nippon Series Game 6, and he went 5-for-26 with 7 RBI in that series. The Hiroshima Carp still beat the Braves in 7 games. Fukuhara slumped to .214/.301/.444 with 8 homers in 1985, and he struggled again in 1986 as his batting line was .154/.214/.231. He was mainly used as defensive replacement in the rest of his career, and he played 91 games with a .147/.275/.235 batting line in 41 plate appearances in 1986. He hit .216/.310/.255 in 1987, and his batting line was .200/.309/.257 in 1988. Fukuhara blasted 3 homers with a .218/.318/.338 batting line in 1989, but he only got 21 more at-bats combined until he announced his retirement in 1991.

After retiring, Fukuhara was the fielding coach for the Orix BlueWave from 1995 to 1999 and for their minor league team from 1993 to 1994. Fukuhara went to the Chunichi Dragons as minor league fielding coach from 2000 to 2001, and he coached their big club in 2002. He then served as fielding coach for the Hanshin Tigers from 2004 to 2006, for the SK Wyverns from 2007 to 2009, for the Rakuten Golden Eagles in 2010, for SK in 2011 and 2013, for the Hanwha Eagles in 2012 and for the Yokohama BayStars minor league team from 2017 to 2018.

Overall, Fukuhara hit .225/.312/.344 with 158 hits and 18 homers in 11 seasons in NPB.
