Biographical Information[edit]

Starting pitcher Mikey O'Brien began his professional career in 2008. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the ninth round of the 2008 amateur draft, two picks ahead of catcher Christian Vazquez.

After two poor years with the GCL Yankees to start his career, O'Brien earned New York-Penn League Mid-Season All-Star honors in 2010, going 6-2 with a 2.08 ERA in 11 starts for the Staten Island Yankees. He was a South Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star in 2011 and had a 9-8 record in 2012. Despite a losing campaign in 2013, O'Brien was taken by the Cincinnati Reds in the AAA phase of the 2013 Rule V Draft.

He reached Triple A for the first time in 2014, posting a 4.65 ERA in 31 innings for the Louisville Bats. The Tampa Bay Rays took him in the Triple-A round of the 2014 Rule V Draft, though he was not long for their organization: the club released him in May 2015. The Baltimore Orioles signed him and on August 20th while toeing the rubber for the Bowie Baysox, he pitched a seven-inning no-hitter against the Lynchburg Hillcats. He became a free agent following the campaign and latched on with the independent Winnipeg Goldeyes.
