Biographical Information[edit]
In 1992, centerfielder Mike Meggers set the NAIA record with 36 HRs, which stood until 2007 when Beau Mills hit 38. He was named to the NAIA All-America team and was named NAIA Player of the year by Baseball America. He ended the year by being named MVP of the NAIA College World Series despite his team losing the championship game.
Meggers was drafted in the 8th round of the 1992 Amateur Draft by the Cincinnati Reds. He played in the Reds' organization from 1992 into 1996, when he moved to the independent leagues. He played in the independent leagues from 1996 to 2002, while also getting looks from O.B. in 1999 and 2002. Meggers was named Baseball America Independent League Player of the Year in 1997 while splitting the season between the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Duluth-Superior Dukes of the Northern League. In 11 seasons Meggers hit a combined 201 homers in organized baseball, the independent leagues, and the Mexican League, leading this league in 1997 (Northern) and 1999 (Mexican).
Meggers' son, Chase, is a redshirt Sophomore catcher for the University of Oregon team in the 2024 CWS Super Regionals.
