Biographical Information

Mike McClendon came to the majors in 2010.

He was 18-5 with a 1.56 ERA in college, then was a 10th-round selection of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2006 amateur draft. He made his debut with the Helena Brewers of the Pioneer League that year, going 3-2, 4.23 as a swingman. He had some success as a starter in the minor leagues, going 10-8, 3.67 in 25 starts between the Class-A Brevard County Manatees and West Virginia Power in 2007, putting up a 93/31 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 152 innings.

He became a reliever the next year, making only 5 starts among his 46 appearances for Brevard County and going 7-6, 4.19 with 10 saves. He walked only 15 in 88 innings. Moving to the AA Huntsville Stars in 2009, he was 4-3, 3.30 with three saves in 41 games, walking 20 in 84 2/3 innings.

McClendon started the 2010 season at Huntsville, but was promoted to the AAA Nashville Sounds after 7 games during which he gave up only 1 run and 1 walk in 14 2/3 innings while striking out 15. At Nashville, he was 4-3, 2.44 in 25 games before getting the call to Milwaukee in mid-August to take the place of the injured LaTroy Hawkins. He had an excellent major league debut with the Brewers on August 14th: coming in in the 6th inning of a game against the Colorado Rockies, he struck out the first batter he faced, Troy Tulowitzki, then proceeded to retire the next 8 batters before leaving the game, having pitched three perfect innings. The Brewers scored in the 10th to pull out a 5-4 win.
