Biographical Information

Outfielder Mike Lockwood played professionally from 1999 to 2008. He peaked at Triple-A stateside and also played in Taiwan, Venezuela and Italy.

He was originally taken by the Oakland Athletics in the 14th round of the 1998 amateur draft, a couple picks ahead of pitcher Shawn Sedlacek, but opted not to sign. He did sign after the A's took him in the 23rd round of the 1999 amateur draft, a few picks after pitcher Willie Eyre and a few ahead of pitcher Aaron Rakers.

He hit .361/.451/.553 with 92 hits in 69 games for the Southern Oregon Timberjacks in 1999, then had 11 home runs, 79 RBI, 10 steals, 31 doubles and 101 runs scored in 139 games between three clubs in 2000. One of those clubs was the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats; he hit .254/.340/.302 with 1 home run and 13 RBI in 126 at-bats in his first try at that level. He had another 10-home run season in 2004 and one more in 2005. He reached Triple-A again in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Though he batted .257/.323/.388 at that level overall, he managed a .304/.353/.460 line in 83 games there in 2003. He played in the Boston Red Sox system in 2005.

He played for the independent Somerset Patriots in 2006, batting .336/.418/.522 in 36 games there. He also played for the Chinatrust Whales of the Chinese Professional Baseball League in 2006 and 2007. He was an Atlantic League All-Star in 2007 after hitting .278/.365/.474 with 23 home runs, 22 steals and 90 runs scored in 121 games. He returned to Somerset in 2008 and also played for the De Angelis Godo of the Italian Baseball League that year, hitting .315/.449/.537 in 42 games for the latter club.

In the minor leagues, he hit .274/.357/.410 with 56 home runs and 387 RBI in 794 games over 7 seasons. At all levels, including his brief time in the Venezuelan Winter League, Lockwood hit .275/.363/.418 with 97 home runs, 560 RBI and 1,075 hits in 1,090 games over 10 seasons.
