Biographical Information[edit]
Reliever Willie Eyre is the brother of big leaguer Scott Eyre. He is one of at least three major league players ever to come out of the College of Eastern Utah, which is in Price, UT, 120 miles southeast of Salt Lake City, UT. Vince Colbert and Jared Fernandez preceded him to The Show.
Selected in the 23th round of the 1999 amateur draft, he pitched in the minors from 1999 to 2006, all in the Minnesota Twins organization. In 2005, he went 10-3 with a 2.72 ERA and 7 saves for the Triple A Rochester Red Wings.
His 42 games in 2006 were 5th on the Twins, as four other relievers were used frequently for short appearances. Eyre had 59 innings in his 42 games, while Dennys Reyes had 51 innings in his 66 games, Juan Rincon had 74 innings in his 75 games, Joe Nathan had 68 innings in his 64 games, and Jesse Crain had 77 innings in his 68 innings.
