Biographical Information[edit]

Mike Juhl pitched one game in AAA then worked as a college coach and scout.

Juhl was 3-2 with a save and a 2.92 ERA in 25 games in his pro debut with the 1991 Spartanburg Phillies, with 45 strikeouts to 7 walks in 49 1/3 IP. He remained with Spartanburg in '92 and again did well (5-5, Sv, 3.52, 83 K in 64 IP). Only Ricky Bottalico made more appearances for Spartanburg than Juhl's 41. He presumably was injured for part of 1993 as he only pitched 21 games for the Clearwater Phillies (2-1, 4 Sv, 0.96 in 21 G, a WHIP under 1). He fell to 0-4, 5.56 for Clearwater in 1994.

Mike split 1995 between the Reading Phillies (1-8, 6 Sv, 4.27, 28 BB in 46 1/3 IP) and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons (striking out the only batter he faced in AAA). He was 10th in the Eastern League with 49 pitching appearances. Among Philadelphia farmhands, he tied Matt Beech, Jim Deshaies and Jason Boyd for 7th in losses and was 10th in games pitched. He ended his career in 1996 with Reading (1-1, 2.79 in 9 G) and the Newburgh Night Hawks (9 H, 6 R in 2 2/3 IP, 0-1).

Overall, Juhl was 12-22 with 12 saves and a 3.59 ERA in 167 minor league games, striking out 210 in 223 IP while walking 71 and allowing 210 hits.

He was head coach for SUNY New Paltz from 1998-2006, then became a St. Louis Cardinals scout. He signed Alex Castellanos.
