Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Beech pitched three seasons in the bigs with the Philadelphia Phillies from 1996 to 1998. But his greatest claim to fame as a professional came during his time in the Atlantic League. Pitching for the Bridgeport Bluefish on August 15, 2007, Beech allowed a home run to Jose Offerman in the first inning of a home game against Offerman's Long Island Ducks. In his next plate appearance, Offerman was hit by a Beech offering and charged the mound with his bat, assaulting both Beech and catcher John Nathans in a wild melee. Beech sustained a broken middle finger while Nathans suffered a concussion; Offerman was barred from the league for life.

Matt pitched a perfect game against Louisiana Tech University in 1994. It was the 21st perfect game in NCAA history and the first in the Southwest Conference in 17 years. In 2008, he pitched for Telemarket Rimini in the Italian Baseball League.
