Biographical Information[edit]

Mike Hrynio was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 12th round of the 2001 Amateur Draft. He spent 2001 and 2002 playing every infield position (the vast majority at third base; one game each at first, second and shortstop) for the AZL Mariners. He was the backup 3B his first year, then started ahead of Giuseppe Mazzanti the next. During this time, he hit .221/.302/.311.

2003 saw Hrynio take the mound in 14 contests for the same team. His one game as an outfielder was his last game as a position player but not as a pitcher. He went 2-3 pitching exclusively in relief with a 4.07 ERA. He was moved up to A ball in 2004, playing for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. He pitched in 54 games, going 4-4 with a 3.75 ERA and nine saves. He led his team in appearances, only two shy of Tim Rall for the lead among Mariners farmhands.

After missing 2005 with an injury, he pitched with the advanced A Inland Empire 66ers and AAA Tacoma Rainiers in 2006. He struggled in his two games with Tacoma (no record, 9.00 ERA) and put up a 4.64 ERA at Inland Empire. 2007 was his last season in the M's chain, spending most of the season with the AA West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx, posting a 3-1 record, two saves and a respectable 3.89 ERA. He pitched one game with the Rainiers, as well, pitching only one inning.

He moved onto the Cincinnati Reds system in 2008, but struggled. Pitching with the AA Chattanooga Lookouts, he went 3-1, but had an ERA of 5.50.

He spent 2009 and 2010 in the Atlantic League and Golden Baseball League, respectively, to close out his pro career. In the independent leagues, he appeared in 65 games (16 starts) and posted aggregate totals of 9-6 with a 5.10 ERA.
