Biographical Information

Mike Brown pitched for Team USA when they won Bronze in the 1979 Intercontinental Cup. He pitched in six seasons during the 1980s. In 61 games, he was 12-20 with a 5.75 ERA. On May 7, 1983, Brown pitched his lone shutout, an 8-0 whitewashing of the Seattle Mariners at Fenway Park. He was later part of the Boston Red Sox offering to the Seattle Mariners in 1986 that netted Boston Spike Owen and postseason hero Dave Henderson.

Following his playing days, Mike was a coach for George Mason University in 1989. He became a coach in the New York Yankees organization in 1990, coaching for the Prince William Cannons in 1990, Fort Lauderdale Yankees in 1991 and Columbus Clippers in 1992-1993. Brown was pitching coach of the Cleveland Indians in 2002. He later coached for the Nippon Ham Fighters (2004-2006) and Orix BlueWave (2008) as well as serving as an Arizona Diamondbacks scout (2007, 2011-present). As pitching coach for Nippon Ham, he worked with Yu Darvish when Darvish was just starting out in pro ball.
