Miguel Aguilar reached the majors in 2021.
Aguilar debuted as a pro in 2012 with the Vaqueros Laguna, posting a 5.87 ERA in 26 games as a LOOGY (only 15 1/3 IP). With the Venados de Mazatlán that winter, he allowed only one hit and one run in 7 1/3 IP, though he walked six. In 2013, he went 4-4 with a 5.68 ERA in 53 games (38 IP) for Laguna. He allowed 49 hits but struck out 52. He was 1-1 with a 4.57 ERA in 30 games (21 IP, 16 BB) for the Venados in 2013-2014. He began 2014 with Laguna (12.82 ERA in 13 1/3 IP, 25 H, 11 BB; 28 G) and was then dealt with Demetrio Gutiérrez to the Leones de Yucatán for Mauricio Avila, Rodrigo Sánchez and Felipe Santomé. He allowed six runs in 7 2/3 IP over 12 outings for the Leones. In the winter, he was 1-3 with a 5.61 ERA in 25 2/3 IP over 40 games. He was second in the Mexican Pacific League in pitching appearances, behind Matias Carrillo.
In his first full season with the Leones, he was 2-0 with a 2.14 ERA in 51 games. In 33 2/3 IP, he allowed only 15 hits but walked 19, while whiffing 38. The Venados traded him to the Yaquis de Obregón for Esteban Quiroz and a draft pick. He was 1-2 with a 1.73 ERA in 34 games; he worked only 26 innings and had more walks (15) than hits allowed (12). He then made the Mexican national team for the 2016 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. He pitched one game, in their opener against the Czech Republic. He relieved Mark Serrano in the 7th with a 2-0 lead. He got Petr Cech on a fly, walked Martin Cervenka, struck out Petr Zýma and got Martin Schneider on a fly. Jake Sanchez relieved in the 8th and Mexico won, 2-1, their closest game as they cruised to a spot in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
Aguilar was 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA in 50 games (30 1/3 IP) for Yucatán in 2016. In the winter, he was 1-4 with a save and a 3.24 ERA in 30 games for the Yaquis. He was then on Mexico's provisional roster pool for the second round of the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
His brother Luis Aguilar played in the Mexican League and the two were teammates with Laguna in 2012-2014.
