Midlothian White Sox
The Midlothian White Sox were an amateur baseball team located in the Chicago suburb of Midlothian, IL. Howie Minas founded the White Sox in 1958. He was also the team's manager, GM, fundraiser etc.
The White Sox appeared in three National Baseball Congress World Series finals. They lost the 1988 and 1990 finals before finally winning in 1992. The 1992 win was historic as they beat the Liberal BeeJays by a score of 21-1. It's the largest margin of victory in NBC final history. The White Sox hit seven home runs in the game including grand slams by Mike Kane and Dick Canan. They hit 27 in the tournament, one short of the NBC record of 28. (Which they set two years earlier). Catcher Mike Kane was named tournament MVP.
Once the White Sox had realized their goal of winning the World Series the team folded, as most of the players went their separate ways. Minas went to work with former rival Bob Sullivan in Grand Rapids, MI.
