Biographical Information[edit]

Mark Doran was a first-round draft pick. He played eight years in the minors, peaking at AAA.

Doran was taken by the California Angels with the 23rd pick of the 1983 amateur draft. He was the third college outfielder taken after Dave Clark and Stan Jefferson. Mark hit .222/.315/.321 in a rough pro debut with the Peoria Suns. In 1984, Doran batted .289/.377/.377 for Peoria with 23 steals in 36 tries. His 13 outfield assists tied for third in the Midwest League. He made the MWL All-Star outfield alongside Luis Polonia, Brian Finley and Dave Hengel.

Doran hit .279/~.369/.421 for the 1985 Redwood Pioneers. The next year, he fell to .257/~.332/.357 in 49 games for the Palm Springs Angels. During 1987, he rebounded to .276/~.342/.414 with the Midland Angels. In 1988, he made it to AAA with the Edmonton Trappers but hit only .239/~.306/.369. He did have 14 outfield assists, tying for third in the Pacific Coast League, though 8 behind teammate and leader Dante Bichette.

The Wisconsin alumnus bounced between three stops in 1989, hitting a composite .274/.350/.361. He split 1990 between Palm Springs (.364/.455/.600 in 15 G) and Midland (.286/.375/.429 in 38 G) to wrap things up. He was a strike replacement player for the 1995 Pirates.
