Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Michael Wing began his professional career in 2007. He was originally taken by the Los Angeles Angels in the 26th round of the 2007 amateur draft, one pick after infielder Andy Parrino. He was signed by scout Tim Corcoran. While in affiliated ball, he peaked at Double-A.
In his second season, he slashed .297/.359/.453 with 38 hits in 37 games between two clubs and the next year, 2009, he batted .315/.396/.492 with 75 hits in 65 games, spent mostly with the Orem Owlz. He reached double-digit home runs for the first time in 2011, when he batted .317/.365/.502 with 11 home runs and 54 RBI in 73 games for the Inland Empire 66ers. In the Triple-A round of the 2011 Rule V Draft, he was selected by the San Diego Padres, but spent just one season—2012—in their system. After that campaign, he moved to the independent ranks, playing in the Frontier League (2013-2014) and American Association (2015). He was a Frontier League All-Star in 2014.
Missing 2016, he returned in 2017 in the Mexican League, where he hit his stride. In 88 at-bats for the Rieleros de Aguascalientes that season, he hit .432/.469/.659. In 2018, he batted .365/.411/.631 with 18 home runs and 76 RBI in 83 games for Aguascalientes, then in 2019, he hit .355/.416/.650 with 28 home runs and 110 RBI in 108 games for the same club. He was a Mid-Season All-Star that year. He hasn't posted such numbers since, but is still active as of 2024.
He has also been a regular face in the Mexican Pacific Winter League.
