Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Matt Krook was selected by the Miami Marlins with the 35th overall selection in the 2013 amateur draft. However, he did not sign, opting to attend the University of Oregon instead. In the 2016 amateur draft, he fell to the 4th round, where he was selected by the San Francisco Giants. He signed with them and made his debut that season with the AZL Giants, and also pitched with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes before they year was out.

After going 1-4, 5.53 in 13 games in his first year, he moved to the San Jose Giants of the California League in 2017. There, he went 4-9, 5.12 in 25 games with 52 walks and 66 strikeouts in 91 1/3 innings. After the season, he was one of four players traded to the Tampa Bay Rays on December 20th, along with OF Denard Span, IF Christian Arroyo and fellow prospect Stephen Woods Jr., in return for 3B Evan Longoria.

It took him until 2023 to make his major league debut, by which time he was a member of the New York Yankees. His debut came as a reliever in a blowout 15-5 loss to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park; he pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief of Domingo German, who had been torched for 7 runs in 2 innings, and gave up another 5 tallies. He had been drafted by the Yankees from the Rays in the minor league phase of the 2020 Rule V Draft.
