Biographical Information

Martin Carrasquel was a minor league pitcher. He is the brother of major leaguer Chico Carrasquel and minor leaguer Domingo Carrasquel Sr., the father of scout Emilio Carrasquel, the nephew of major leaguer Alex Carrasquel and the cousin of Domingo Carrasquel Jr., Manuel Carrasquel, Alfonso Collazo and Cris Colón.

He made his pro debut with the 1949-1950 Patriotas de Venezuela, going 2-3 with a 5.89 ERA and 1.92 WHIP. He split the summer of 1950 between the Geneva Robins (4-2, 4.59) and the Asheville Tourists (1-0, 3.27), appearing in 10 games in the US. He had a 6.35 ERA in three outings for the Patriotas in 1950-1951, then had a 0-3, 6.19 record and a WHIP over 2 for the 1950-1951 Sabios de Vargas. In 1951-1952, the right-hander was 1-2 with a 4.58 ERA for the Sabios.

Carrasquel went 4-3 with a 5.26 ERA for the '52 Bakersfield Indians, then was 2-3 with a 2.57 ERA for Vargas in 1952-1953, perhaps his best winter in the Venezuelan League. He went 1-1 with a 6.40 ERA for the 1953-1954 Gavilanes. He was 0-2 with a 4.26 ERA for the Yucatan Lions in the Mexican League in 1954. His record was 0-1, 3.07 for Santa Marts in 1954-1955, followed by a 1.10 ERA in 9 outings for the 1955-1956 Licoreros de Pampero. After a year off, he went 1-2 with a 3.05 ERA for the 1957-1958 Licoreros. In 1958-1959, the veteran hurler was 0-1 for the Leones del Caracas despite allowing no earned runs in 11 innings. He pitched 2/3 of an inning for Caracas in 1959-1960 to end his career.

Overall, Carrasquel had a 9-5 record in the minors and 7-16, 4.50 in the Venezuelan League.

He died from injuries sustained during a robbery.
