Biographical Information[edit]
Mark Scalf was a head coach for over 25 years.
Scalf was a second baseman at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington from 1977-1980. He was an assistant coach at UNC Chapel Hill from 1981-1983, then returned to UNC Wilmington as an assistant. He was promoted to head coach in 1992. He was named Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year in 1995, 2000, 2005 and 2008. In 2003, Wilmington had its first 40-win season. They set other school win records in 2006 (42) and 2008 (42). On April 10, he became UNC Wilmington's all-time win leaders; he was 587-459-1 at year's end. He retired following the 2019 season.
Scalf coached for Team USA in the 2003 Pan American Games and 2007 Pan American Games.
Mark was coach of the 1985 Wareham Gatemen.
Scalf coached John Raynor in college as well as Swedish national team star Magnus Pilegård.
He is the brother-in-law of former minor league infielder Chuck Baldwin and the uncle of Brooks Baldwin.
