Mark Olivier was the starting shortstop for the South African national team that won the 1999 All Africa Games. He batted .500/?/.909 with 12 RBI in 5 games, homering off Lesotho's Teboho Shelile and Zimbabwe's Tinei Billiat. On a high-flying offense, he was only 10th in average and tied for 6th in RBI. He did not make the team in the 2000 Olympics as they went with Paul Bell at short. In the 2001 Baseball World Cup, he batted .214/.267/.214 and fielded .895, backing up Kevin Johnson at 2B and Francisco Alfino at 3B.
