Biographical Information[edit]

Mark Harriger is a former minor league baseball pitcher who played from 1996 to 2002 in the California and Anaheim Angels and Oakland Athletics farm systems.

Originally drafted out of high school by the San Diego Padres in the 90th round (1713rd overall) in 1993, he opted not to sign. He was 3-3 with a save and a 3.48 ERA as a junior in college, finishing 5th in the West Division of the Western Athletic Conference in ERA. When he was drafted by the Angels in the 18th round (535th overall) in the 1996, he did sign. The signing scout was Tim Kelly.

He appeared in seven games in relief for the Boise Hawks in 1996, allowing nine hits and four earned runs in 4 1/3 innings of work for a 8.31 ERA.

1997 was a rough year for Harriger. He appeared in 13 games for the Hawks that year, starting 12 of them. WIth the Hawks, he posted a 3-4 record and a 7.94 ERA. He also spent time with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. In 12 games with them (11 of which he started), he went 1-6 with a 7.82 ERA. Overall, he posted a 4-10 record with a 7.88 ERA.

Although he had performed poorly in 1996 and 1997, he did very well in 1998, especially during his time with the Kernels. With them, he started 16 games, posting an 8-4 record to compliment a 2.23 ERA. He was third in the Midwest League in ERA, trailing Jason Childers and A.J. Burnett. He also pitched in 13 games for the Lake Elsinore Storm, starting 12 of them. Overall, he posted a 13-9 record with a relatively impressive 3.00 ERA. He was ranked the club's #3 prospect going into 1999 by Baseball America.

He only played in six games in 1999, all of them with the Erie Sea Wolves. He posted a 2-1 record with a 4.70 ERA.

He missed all of 2000.

With the Arkansas Travelers in 2001, he pitched in 10 games, starting nine of them. He posted a record of 2-3 with a 4.65 ERA.

In an unknown transaction, he wound up in the Athletics farm system. He'd only be in their system one year - 2002 - before retiring. In 2002, he appeared in 12 games - starting 11 of them - for the Visalia Oaks. He posted a record of 2-4 with a 5.44 ERA.

Overall in his career, Harriger went 25-28 in 97 games, 83 of which he started. In 467 1/3 innings of work, he posted a 4.78 ERA, walking 208 batters and striking out 358.
